Official Dress Code At Doncaster Race

In general the racecourse recommends something smart-casual, and discourage racegoers from wearing any sportswear or ripped jeans.

Premier Enclosure and the Home Straight Restaurant – A jacket for gentlemen is required with a tie as optional. Jeans and sportswear are not permitted in these areas. The dress code also applies to children. We  Say.. Most gentlemen will wear a suit. The weather is getting cooler so change to a winter suit in wool or a wool blend.

Skopes’ Doyle Navy Blue Check Suit is of a wool blend with 30% wool for warmth. This navy suit stands out with its large aqua and wine overcheck. The jacket has a wine geometric print lining, matching pull out pocket square and twin side vents. £140.00 For the trousers choose between tapered or tailored. Both are £79.00 each. The matching waistcoat has the same geometric print on the back, so if the weather permits, you can wow them with more drama. £79.00 Wear a white shirt with double cuffs like their Premium Cotton Formal Shirt White Dobby £49.00 and flash their Silver / Gold Knot Design Cufflinks £24.95 Bring out the wine in the suit check with their Wine Spot Silk Tie £19.95 Step out in their Brogue Shoes a leather tan brogue lace-up shoe with navy inlay design. £75.00 Have fun with your socks  Thought Jett Organic Cotton Socks from SockShop are decorated with dapper motifs combining top hats, moustaches, spectacles and smoking pipes. In purple but also available in the more reserved navy. Were £7.99 now £3.99. Top it all off with Cotswold Country Hat’s  Camden Trilby Hat in Handmade Wool Felt Crushable Colour navy but also in wine for the more ostentatious gent. £38.95

County Enclosure, Conduit Restaurant, boxes, press and the Owners & Trainers areas- The only stipulation is that sportswear and offensive fancy dress are not permitted. However racegoers often choose to adopt a smarter style. The racecourse recommends, for example, smart jeans or tailored shorts and a collared shirt for gentlemen. Many racegoers opt to dress for the occasion on feature race days such as the Futurity Trophy Weekend. For the County Enclosure – you need to call and check with Doncaster Racecourse first if you wish to come in fancy dress.

A tailor fit corduroy suit would make a  dapper alternative to the everyday suit, adding texture and keeping you warm. Corduroy is often misinterpreted as the king’s cloth (corde du roi) but we all know that velvet was the favourite fabric of the kings. Another suggestion is that the name was derived from the word ‘cord’ and ‘duroy’ which is a coarse woolen fabric worn in the 17th/18th century due to its affordability and durability. However, unlike duroy, corduroy can be soft to the touch depending on how fat the wales are (the raised tufts). A corduroy suit is versatile as the jacket and trousers can be worn separately for smart casual days. Skopes’ Dorsey Double Breasted Suit in camel brown looks the sartorial part. The jacket has patch pockets, a peak lapel, a floral print lining and a pull out hankie in the same print. £120.00 For the trousers there is a choice of tailored or tapered fit. Both are £64.00 each. The jacket’s pull out hankie’s colour is subtle, so for more of an impact wear Geoff Stocker’s LUNAR pocket square £45.00. Adorn the jacket’s lapel with Tateossian’s Herbal Pin crafted from palladium plated base metal.£120.00. Wear the suit with a crisp white shirt for a sharper look and team with a patterned tie such as Skopes Navy Blue & Orange Floral Tie £12.00. Pair with their Tan Country Brogue Shoes £75.00 and get juicy with a pair of orange Burlington King Argyle Cotton Socks from SOCKSHOP £14.99 Keep your head toasty warm with Cotswold Country Hats Bakerboy Cap in brown check genuine handwoven Harris Tweed wool. £41.95

The Grandstand Enclosure and the Family Enclosure– Here the dress code is relaxed. The only stipulation is sporting team shirts and offensive fancy dress are not permitted. We say… go smart casual with the emphasis on comfort and layering.
