Royal Ascot x Favourbrook

Favourbrook is Royal Ascot’s Official Men’s Formalwear Licensee with their Royal Ascot Attire Collection The collection features the traditional black and grey morning coat plus the their navy Furlong suit comprising Navy Ascot Wool Morning Coat £720.00 and Navy Ascot High Waisted Flat Front Trouser £275.00 which was created last year especially for Royal Ascot. For the grey and navy morning coat the trousers should match the coat in colour and fabric, like a suit, The black morning coat is worn with striped or houndstooth trousers. Wear braces with a morning coat rather than a belt. A belt will add bulkiness underneath your waistcoat and jacket, whilst braces will streamline the silhouette. White Moire Silk Braces £110.00. Add colour to your morning coat with a pocket square which should be made of silk or linen and neatly folded in the pocket rather than flamboyantly pushed in. Favourbrook’s Osterley Silk Pocket Square £50.00 is available in light blue and navy. Another way to introduce colour or extra flourish is to wear a boutonnière.

With the grey morning suit the waistcoat has to match the coat in colour and fabric. However for the black and navy morning coat, the waistcoat is a great opportunity to express your personality with a touch of colour, but choose the soft subtle hues and keep the bright colours and patterns for weddings. There are many styles to choose from – single breasted or double breasted, with or without lapels, U or V shaped and shawl or peak collars. Plain wool or linen are best although silk or satin are also acceptable. Favourbrook’s Dukes Breasted Waistcoat £290.00 is available in blue, beige, dove grey, lilac and yellow.  This style suits the skinnier or taller frame as double breasted with lapels will add bulk. Single breasted without lapels suit most frames. Due to its minimalist style it can also create the illusion of length for the shorter guy and is more slimming. Gabardine Wool Single Breasted Waistcoat £190.00 is available in pale blue, beige, cream, grey, yellow and black.

A crisp white shirt with double cuffs is traditional such as Favourbrook’s White Canter Gatsby Shirt £160.00. However a pale coloured shirt (plain or striped) is also acceptable but the collar and cuffs should still be white. Blue/White Steed Cotton Gatsby Shirt £160.00 is also available in pink/white and lilac/white. A pair of cufflinks is a must for the double cuff shirt and here is where you can flash your individual style: sophisticated elegance in gold and silver simple designs; decadence with pearls or gemstone; or a fun playful twist with novelty designs. Go for an equestrian theme with Wild Horses Cufflinks by Lee Renée Ltd £259.00 in 18ct gold vermeil or £237.00 sterling silver.

A woven silk tie is the most popular choice – leave the cravats and Ascot ties for weddings. You can choose any colour, but do keep to the softer hues. Textures such as brocades add richness to a mono colour. Patterns (stripes, dots, paisley) can be worn but usually are subtle, using a monochrome palette rather than bold clashing colours. Favourbrook’s Cambridge Spot Pink/Cream Silk Tie £110.00 is also available in navy/silver, grey/cream and sky blue/cream, Add a taste of summer with Strawberry Tie Pin/Brooch by Lee Renée Ltd £144.00 18ct gold/rose gold vermeil and £128.00 in sterling silver.

Both black or grey top hats are acceptable for black morning coats, grey top hats partner well with grey morning suits and black top hats with navy morning suits such as Favourbrook Black Felt Fur Top Hat £475.00

When wearing a morning coat, the shoes need to be black with laces, plain and highly polished (although not patent). The best shoe style to wear is the formal plain Oxford shoe such as Favourbrook’s Black Oxford Leather Shoes £390.00. Don’t try to jazz up your ensemble with  coloured or patterned socks, opt for just plain black or grey. They must also cover the ankles. Plain Socks from SOCKSHOP offers black or charcoal. £7.99
